In the present invention, a composite model image and a 3D image are displayed on a display unit. The 3D image is an image generated on the basis of partial volume data within a 3D region of interest. The composite model image includes a region of interest model and a cut surface image. The region of interest model includes a cut surface model and is a 3D model which schematically indicates the 3D region of interest. The cut surface model is a 3D model which schematically indicates the cut surface of the 3D region of interest. The cut surface image is an image generated on the basis of surface data, in the volume data, that corresponds to a cut surface. For example, the cut surface image is displayed in a form such that the cut surface image is incorporated into the cut surface model.
