Abstract:
Provided is an ultraviolet reflective material that exhibits a high reflectance in the wavelength range from the short-wavelength ultraviolet region that includes 200 nm to the long-wavelength ultraviolet region that includes 400 nm; that in particular exhibits a high reflectance in the UVC to UVB ultraviolet region from 200 to about 315 nm, which heretofore could not be reflected; and that more particularly exhibits a high reflectance in the short-wavelength ultraviolet region at and below 250 nm. Moreover, this ultraviolet reflective material does not discolor or deteriorate even when irradiated; exhibits an excellent light resistance, heat resistance, weathering resistance, flame retardancy, and thermal conductivity; suppresses ultraviolet-induced deterioration in the presence of heating and provides an excellent protective function; and is mechanically and chemically stable and can retain its white color on a long term basis while maintaining a high reflectance over a broad wavelength range. The ultraviolet reflective material 10, 20 has a reflectance of at least 60% at a wavelength of 405 nm and has an ultraviolet reflective layer 17a, 17b comprising a condensation-curable silicone resin and ultraviolet reflective filler particles 12a, 12b, 12c such as alumina, magnesium hydroxide, calcium fluoride, aluminum hydroxide, aluminum nitride, and silicon oxide.
