Abstract:
A rail fastening assembly has a top plate (3) for supporting the underside of a rail on a canted surface (14) extending between two, spaced, locating mounds (15). The top plate (3) locates within a cavity of an elastomeric boot (4) fitted into a socket of a bottom plate (2). Parts (11) of the bottom plate (2) are swaged or cramped from the position shown in broken outline to the positions shown in full outline at which they retain the positions of the two plates (2 and 3) and the intervening boot (4) with respect to one another. The boot (4) and the top and bottom plates (2 and 3) are separate items which are held together solely by the parts (11).
