Abstract:
Provided is a UV irradiation apparatus which has been made dramatically more compact than structures of the prior art. This UV irradiation apparatus comprises: a first electrode block and a second electrode block positioned apart from one another in a first direction or positioned in an electrically insulated state in the first direction; a recessed groove formed so as to extend in the first direction in the side surfaces of both electrode blocks; a first discharge lamp made from an excimer lamp and partially fitted into a groove formed in both the of the electrode blocks, and which is positioned so as to extend in the first direction so as to straddle both electrode blocks; a power supply for supplying power to the first discharge lamp; a first current-carrying member which electrically connects the first electrode block and the power supply; a second current-carrying member which can electrically connect the second electrode block and the power supply at a different potential to that of the first current-carrying member; and a light-irradiating window for removing, to the exterior, UV light emitted by the first discharge lamp.
