Abstract:
Provided is a validation device that can reliably read identification codes printed on a printing medium even if the transport speed of the printer is changed. Said validation device is characterized by having: an insertion slot via which a continuous sheet of paper ejected from the printer is inserted into the device; a transport means that transports the continuous sheet of paper inserted into the insertion slot; a detection means that detects the position of the continuous sheet of paper; a speed detection means that detects the transport speed at which the continuous sheet of paper is being transported; an illumination-level determination means that, on the basis of the transport speed detected by the speed detection means, determines the level at which to illuminate an identification code; an illumination means that shines light at the level determined by the illumination-level determination means; an analysis means that analyzes the information in the identification code illuminated by the illumination means; and a error printing means that prints an error indication on the continuous sheet of paper if the analysis means has determined that the identification code is unreadable.
