Abstract:
This vehicle control method involves: detecting a merging section (23) where a traveling lane (21) on which a vehicle (20) is traveling merges with another lane (22) on a route that the vehicle (20) will follow (S1); determining whether to perform merging assistance control for assisting the vehicle (20) in making a lane change to the other lane (22) at the merging section (23) (S2); and, when it has been determined not to perform the merging assistance control at the merging section (23), controlling the speed of the vehicle (20) so as to be equal to or lower than a predetermined speed (v0) before the vehicle (20) passes through the starting point (24) of the merging section (23) (S4–S8).
