Abstract:
A vehicle door latch device 10 comprises: a latch 13 that engages with a striker 18 and that is capable of rotating from an unlatched position to a full-latch excessive rotation position; a ratchet member 15 provided with a pawl part 15a that is pivotably supported by a ratchet shaft 16 and that is capable of displacing between a latch engagement position where the ratchet member can confront a full-latch engagement part 13d of the latch 13 and a latch detachment position where the ratchet member is not engaged with the full-latch engagement part 13d; and a ratchet inhibitor 121 that is provided to the side of the ratchet member 15 and that holds the ratchet member 15. The ratchet member 15 is configured so that a release component force F2 oriented in a latch detachment direction is applied to the ratchet member 15 when a latch return force that acts on the latch 13 is applied to the ratchet member 15 in the latch engagement position, and thereby the ratchet member is pushed from the latch engagement position to the latch detachment position. The ratchet inhibitor 121 is configured to be displaceable about a support shaft 122 between a block position where the ratchet inhibitor abuts the ratchet member 15 so as to restrict the displacement of the ratchet member 15 by the release component force F2 from the latch engagement position to the latch detachment position, and a release position where the ratchet inhibitor separates from the ratchet member 15 so as to allow the displacement of the ratchet member 15 from the latch engagement position to the latch detachment position. The ratchet inhibitor 121 is configured to return to the block position by rotating 360° in the same direction from the block position.
