Provided is a vehicle-mounted communication system that can reduce the time required for detecting the position of a portable device. This vehicle-mounted communication system comprises: a vehicle-mounted device 1 that transmits a detection signal, which is for detecting the position of a portable device 3, from a plurality of LF transmission antennas 22 provided in a vehicle C; and a plurality of portable devices 3 each receiving the detection signal transmitted from the vehicle-mounted device 1, and each transmitting a response signal according to the received detection signal. The vehicle-mounted device 1 detects the position of each portable device 3 by receiving the response signal. The vehicle-mounted device 1 continuously transmits, from the plurality of LF transmission antennas 22 to the plurality of portable devices 3, the detection signal to be received in common by each portable device 3. One of the portable devices 3 that received the detection signal transmits, to the vehicle-mounted device 1, said response signal which includes information according to the detection signal transmitted from the vehicle-mounted device 1.
