Abstract:
A video-display control device (1) provided with: a video-signal processing unit (112) that corrects a video signal on the basis of control data generated by a control-data generation unit (131) and outputs the corrected video signal to a display (12); and a backlight control unit (14) that controls the emission luminance of a backlight (122) on the basis of the difference between the mean luminance of the video signal and the mean luminance of the corrected video signal. The control-data generation unit (131) allocates part of a high-level-region dynamic range of the video signal to a low-level region, and the backlight control unit (14) controls the emission luminance of the backlight (122), in accordance with the increase or decrease in the mean luminance of the corrected video signal with respect to the mean luminance of the video signal, so as to cancel out an increase or decrease in the mean luminance of the video as displayed on a screen (121). This makes it possible to improve contrast and reduce power consumption even if the amplitude of the video signal is equal to the width of the dynamic range thereof.
