Disclosed is a viscosity control agent for lubricants for power transfer systems which is composed of an ethylene/&agr -olefin copolymer having the characteristics (1)-(4) shown below. Also disclosed is a lubricant composition for power transfer systems containing such a viscosity control agent. (1) The ethylene content is within the range of 70-85% by mole. (2) The limiting viscosity [&eegr ] is within the range of 0.2-1.0 dl/g. (3) The Mw/Mn is not more than 2.4. (4) The melting point measured by DSC is not more than 60&ring C, or no melting point is observed. This lubricant composition for power transfer systems is excellent in low-temperature viscosity characteristics and shear stability.
