Abstract:
The present disclosure pertains to a wavelength conversion element that converts applied excitation light to light having different wavelengths. The wavelength conversion element is provided with a base material having an upper surface and a wavelength conversion member disposed on the upper surface of the base material. The wavelength conversion member includes: a fluorescent body including a plurality of fluorescent particles; molten glass that is in contact with the fluorescent particles and joins the fluorescent particles; and gaps present between the fluorescent particles, in the molten glass, and/or between the fluorescent particles and the molten glass. In a cross-sectional view of the wavelength conversion member, the maximum value of the areas of the gaps is less than the maximum value of the areas of the fluorescent particles.
