Abstract:
A wavelength conversion element 1 is provided with a substrate section 10, and an optical conversion layer 30 containing optical conversion inorganic particles 40 and an inorganic binder section 50. The inorganic binder section 50 contains particulate binder microparticles 51 having a smaller average particle size than that of the optical conversion inorganic particles 40, and an amorphous binder 52. Where the ratio of a mean volume concentration of the binder microparticles 51 to a mean volume concentration of the optical conversion inorganic particles 40 in a substrate-side portion 31 is defined as a substrate-side binder microparticle concentration ratio RFS, and the ratio of a mean volume concentration of the binder microparticles 51 to a mean volume concentration of the optical conversion inorganic particles 40 in an anti-substrate-side portion 32 is defined as an anti-substrate-side binder microparticle concentration ratio RFO, the substrate-side binder microparticle concentration ratio RFS is greater than the anti-substrate-side binder microparticle concentration ratio RFO.
