Abstract:
Provided is a wireless communication system comprising a first communication device and a second communication device which communicates with the first communication device. The first communication device includes: a transmission and reception unit which controls at least the phase or the amplitude of each of a plurality of antenna elements to control beam directions of beams formed by the plurality of antenna elements and transmits a reference signal toward each beam direction while changing the beam directions such that communication areas partially overlap with each other between the beams adjacent to each other; and a beam control unit which acquires, from the second communication device, quality information relating to the beam acquired for each reference signal received by the second communication device, estimates an appropriate beam direction for the second communication device on the basis of a weighted average of the pieces of acquired quality information each relating to each reference signal or comparison between a ratio between the pieces of quality information relating to the beams adjacent to each other and a gain ratio corresponding to a direction between the beams adjacent to each other, and controls the transmission and reception unit such as to form the beams in the estimated beam direction or a direction based on the estimated beam direction, to thereby execute communication between the transmission and reception unit and the second communication device. The second communication device acquires the quality information on the basis of the reference signal transmitted from the first communication device and transmits the acquired quality information to the first communication device.
