Abstract:
A continuous paper web is dried against the surfaces of heated drying cylinders (20.24.24') and by means of one or more air impingement modules (M1.M2M3). The final web moisture content and cross machine direction (CMD) moisture profile is regulated by adjusting the efficiency of the air impingement modules. An independent claim is included for: A dryer section including means (34) to measure web moisture content with means (38,36,40) to adjust the web drying according to the measured results. Preferred Features: - Various models and optimization algorithms are detailed for electronic processing with the measured moisture contents to operate the control means (36,38,40). Means (38) adjust the drying cylinder steam pressure and means (36,40) control the air impingement modules. Different control strategies for different paper grades are disclosed as are start-up strategies. Details of operating the cylinders and air impingement modules are also disclosed.
