An assembly (10) for mounting an accessory to a vehicle includes a central frame member (12), a pair of vehicle mounting brackets (30), a first accessory receiver (40) and a first accessory receiver mounting bracket (40) secured to both the first accessory receiver (40) and the central frame member (12). The mounting bracket may assume the form of a single plate or a pair of cooperating plates.
