Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately diagnose abnormality in a motor angle sensor which detects a rotation angle of a motor of a variable valve timing apparatus.SOLUTION: A control device detects a rotation phase of a camshaft based on a cam angle signal and a crank angle signal each time the cam angle signal is inputted, detects the amount of change in the rotation phase during the input of the cam angle signal based on a motor angle signal, judges whether at least either the cam angle signal or the crank angle signal is a specified input pattern in diagnosis timing after the input of the cam angle signal and, in a case where it is the specified input pattern, diagnoses the presence/absence of abnormality in a motor angle sensor based on a detection result of the rotation phase and a detection result of the amount of change in the rotation phase in the case where the cam angle signal is inputted before the diagnosis timing.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
