PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of stably holding a board on which a light source is mounted, and a light distribution control element.SOLUTION: A surface light source device 91 comprises: a plurality of LEDs 20 that emit light; a board 21 on which the plurality of LEDs 20 are mounted; a light distribution control element 23 arranged on the board 21 to distribute the light emitted from the plurality of LEDs 20; a reflecting sheet 22 that reflects a portion of the light distributed by the light distribution control element 23, to the side of a display surface of the surface light source device 91; a housing 96 that houses the plurality of LEDs 20, the board 21, the light distribution control element 23, and the reflecting sheet 22; and a holding member that holds the light distribution control element 23 and the board 21 while being in contact with a surface on the side opposite to a surface of the light distribution control element 23 in contact with the board 21.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
