Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display that can stably obtain good afterimage characteristics even when an optical alignment technology is used.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display comprises: a TFT substrate 106 that includes an alignment film 606; an opposing substrate 107 that is arranged opposite to the TFT substrate and has an alignment film 705 formed thereon; and a liquid crystal layer LC held between the respective alignment layers 606 and 705. The alignment layers 606 and 705 are a material to which a liquid crystal alignment regulation force can be applied through irradiation of polarized light; the ratio of oxygen atoms is higher on the surface of the alignment film than that inside the alignment film while the hydrophobicity of the alignment film is maintained.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
