Abstract:
To provide a wire cable assembly (100) capable of transmitting signals at speeds of 5 Gigabits per second over a pair of conductors (102, 104).SOLUTION: A cable (100) has a characteristic impedance of 95 Ohms and can support transmission data according to either USB 3.0 or HDMI (R) 1.3 performance specifications. The wire cable (100) includes: a pair of conductors (102, 104); a shield surrounding the conductors (102, 104); and a dielectric structure (113) configured to maintain a first predetermined spacing between the conductors (102, 104) and a second predetermined spacing between the conductors (102, 104) and the shield. The shield includes: an inner shield conductor (116) enclosing the dielectric structure (113); a ground conductor (120) external to the inner shield conductor (116), extending generally parallel to the pair of conductors (102, 104); and an outer shield conductor (124) enclosing the inner shield conductor (116) and the ground conductor (120).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
