Abstract:
To provide a method of manufacturing a quartz glass optical member.SOLUTION: The present method comprises providing a cylindrical quartz glass body 22 made of a core rod glass and a clad glass. The quartz glass body has a first square-cut end which has a first external diameter. The present invention further comprises: providing a grip 24 of glass having a first end 24a and a second opposite square-cut end 24b which has a second external diameter 50-110% of the first external diameter; fitting the square-cut end of the grip of glass to that of the quartz glass body; and using the grip of glass to guide the quartz glass body to a drawing furnace. Skewness in clad-to-core ratio nearby a boundary surface between the cylindrical quartz glass body and the grip of glass is less than 5%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
