Abstract:
To provide a production method of a carbon fiber, enabling low-cost production of a high-quality carbon fiber by conducting flame-resistant treatment in a shorter time than the conventional method.SOLUTION: A PAN-based precursor fiber is modified in a liquid phase containing a thiolate-based compound and an oxidant containing nitrogen atom to produce a PAN-based flame-resistant fiber. The PAN-based flame-resistant fiber obtained in the production method is heat-treated at 300°C or over and 3000°C or under to give a carbon fiber having excellent mechanical strength. The thiolate-based compound is preferably a compound represented by general formula (1). In formula (1), M shows an alkali metal, R is selected from a group consisting of a hydrocarbon group or an aryl group.SELECTED DRAWING: None
