Abstract:
To provide a magnetic sensor and a card reader with which it is possible to detect a contact terminal 2a and foreign matter.SOLUTION: A card reader 100 includes a magnetic sensor 1 arranged in a card insertion part 50. The magnetic sensor 1 includes a first detection coil 20 and a second detection coil 90, and a first excitation coil 30 and a second excitation coil 40 for generating magnetic fields that are in mutually opposite directions at the position of the detection coil 20 and generating different magnetic fields at the position of the second detection coil 90. The first excitation coil 30 and the second excitation coil 40 are symmetrical to the first detection coil 20 and arranged at asymmetrical positions to the second detection coil 90. One of the first excitation coil 30 and second excitation coil 40 is made to face the passage position of a contact terminal 2a, detecting the presence of the contact terminal 2a on the basis of the output of the first detection coil 20. Also, foreign matter is detected on the basis of the output of the second detection coil 90.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
