Abstract:
To provide a printing system that is able to appropriately perform an operation of attaching/detaching an ink ribbon to/from a printer.SOLUTION: A printing system 8 prints on a printing medium carried along a predetermined carrying direction. The printing system 8 comprises: a printer 1 having: an attachment unit to which an ink ribbon is attached so as to be detachable; and a thermal head, the printer being capable of printing on the printing medium by heating the ink ribbon, attached to the attachment unit, by means of the thermal head; a motor 6; an actuator 5 that moves the printer 1 in an intersecting direction (forward/backward direction), which intersects a carrying direction (a sidewise direction), in accordance with drive of the motor 6; and a brake 6A capable of braking rotation of the motor 6, braking of the brake 6A being valid when power is not supplied and invalid when power is supplied. When the power source of the printing system 8 is off, a user is allowed to attach/detach the ink ribbon while movement of the printer 1 is restricted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
