Abstract:
To provide a positive electrode active material having a high charge/discharge capacity while keeping high safety and high durability and improved in output characteristic; and a manufacturing method which allows the positive electrode active material to be manufactured readily in an industrial scale.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-niobium composite oxide and includes secondary particles resulting from agglomeration of primary particles. The lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-niobium composite oxide is represented by the general formula (1), LiNiMnCoNbO(where 0.20≤a≤0.50, 0.20≤b≤0.60, 0.02≤c≤0.08, 1.05≤d≤1.20 and (1-a-b-c)/a≤2). In the lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-niobium composite oxide, niobium solid-dissolves in the primary particles.SELECTED DRAWING: None
