To provide a negative electrode material with which a lithium ion battery excellent in a balance between cycle characteristics and a charge/discharge capacity can be achieved.SOLUTION: A negative electrode material of the present invention is a negative electrode material used for a negative electrode of a lithium ion battery, and includes an indium material absorbing/desorbing lithium ions and a particulate carbonaceous material, the ratio (W/(W+W)) of the mass (W) of the carbonaceous material with respect to the total mass (W+W) of the mass (W) of the indium material and the mass (W) of the carbonaceous material being 0.05 or more and 0.55 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
