Abstract:
To provide an image forming apparatus that, even when toner clogging occurs at a specific portion in a longitudinal direction of preliminary brushes, can prevent pressure concentration on the specific portion, and can reduce the number of power supplies.SOLUTION: A transfer unit comprises: an endless transfer belt; a transfer member; a cleaning member; and preliminary brushes. The transfer member is arranged opposite to an image carrier with the transfer belt therebetween. The cleaning member cleans a residual toner on the transfer belt. The preliminary brushes are formed of a semiconductive material, arranged on the upstream side of the cleaning member with respect to the direction of movement of the transfer belt, and controls the amount of charge of toner on the transfer belt. The preliminary brushes include a first preliminary brush in contact with an outer peripheral surface of the transfer belt, and a second preliminary brush arranged opposite to the first preliminary brush with the transfer belt therebetween and in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the transfer belt. The first preliminary brush is grounded, and the second preliminary brush is applied with a voltage having a polarity opposite to that of the toner.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
