Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a precursor fiber for a carbon fiber capable of inhibiting fusion of single yarns to produce carbon fibers having a high quality.SOLUTION: A method for producing a carbon fiber precursor fiber comprising a polyacrylonitrile-based copolymer, wherein a concentration of an acrylonitrile monomer in a spinning dope is controlled to less than 10 ppm, and then pH of the spinning dope is adjusted to 7.2 to 10.0, followed by using the spinning dope for spinning; the polyacrylonitrile-based copolymer is prepared preferably by copolymerizing a carboxy group-containing vinyl base compound; the polyacrylonitrile-based copolymer is obtained preferably by aqueous suspension polymerization; the spinning dope contains preferably moisture of 10 ppm or more; further, the spinning dope is adjusted preferably in pH with ammonia; the spinning method is preferably of a wet type or a dry wet type; the fibers after spun are dried preferably by a roller of 150°C or higher; the fibers after spun are subjected preferably to steam drawing; further, the present invention includes a method for producing a carbon fiber in which the carbon fiber precursor fibers obtained by the method described above are subjected to flame resistant treatment and carbonization treatment.SELECTED DRAWING: None
