Abstract:
To provide a surge protection element capable of suppressing a decrease in a discharge starting voltage Vs even if a current surge with a long wave tail is repeatedly applied.SOLUTION: The surge protection element includes: an insulating tube 2; a pair of sealing electrodes 3 for closing openings at both ends of the insulating tube and sealing a discharge control gas inside; and a discharge assisting portion 4 formed on an inner peripheral surface of the insulating tube and containing carbon. An oxygen source layer 5 containing an oxide is formed on at least a part of the inner peripheral surface of the insulating tube. It is preferable that the insulating tube is made of alumina and the oxygen source layer contains SiOas an oxide.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
