Abstract:
To provide a method of drawing a glass preform for optical fiber in which a glass rod with high external diameter precision can be obtained at low cost.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a small-diameter glass rod by drawing a large-diameter glass preform, and the method comprises: drawing the glass preform which has a transparent glass tapered part at one end of a glass preform straight trunk part and also has a tapered part including an opaque glass part at the other end. Prior to the drawing, a part of the tapered part including the opaque glass part is cut, and a take-up dummy connected to a take-up mechanism of a drawing device is deposited with the cut face at a lower end. The cut face is circular and has an external diameter of 135 to 160 mm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
