Abstract:
To provide a quantum cascade laser capable of reducing an influence according to a position deviation of a cleavage surface using a cleavage line as a reference.SOLUTION: A quantum cascade laser comprises a laser structure having a first end surface and a second end surface on the side opposite to the first end surface, and having a semiconductor layer and a semiconductor support body. The semiconductor support body mounts the semiconductor layer, and the laser structure contains a semiconductor mesa including a core layer and an embedding region that embeds the semiconductor mesa. The laser structure includes a first region, a second region, and a third region. The third region is provided between the first region and the second region, and the first region contains the first end surface. The semiconductor mesa contains a first stripe part, a second stripe part, and a first taper part in the first region, the second region, and the third region, respectively.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
