Abstract:
To provide a superconducting wire using MgB2, wherein a curvature radius can be reduced up to a realistic value without significantly reducing a critical current, and removal performance of an inhibitory factor at a time of superconducting connection and thermal stability of a superconductor can be achieved at the same time, a method for manufacturing a superconducting wire, and an MRI device provided with the same.SOLUTION: A superconducting wire 10 is provided with a filament 1 of MgB2, a matrix material 2, a high-thermal expansion metal 3, and a stabilization material 4. The high-thermal expansion metal 3 is a metal (e.g. stainless steel) having a thermal expansion coefficient at a room temperature higher than MgB2 and the matrix material 2 (e.g. iron, niobium). A manufacturing method includes the steps for: filling mixture powders into a first metal tube; performing an extension process for the first metal tube made of a metal as the matrix material 2; producing composite individual wires by storing the first metal tube in a second metal tube made of the high-thermal expansion metal 3 or the stabilization material 4; performing an extension process for the composite individual wires; and performing a thermal process.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
