Abstract:
To provide a technique that can appropriately detect the fullness of a toner recovery container even when there is a large difference in the amount of recovered waste toner (and waste developer) in respective colors.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a plurality of process units that use different types of toner to form toner images for the respective types of toner; transfer units that transfer the toner images to a sheet in an overlapped manner; a plurality of toner containers for replenishment that are attached while storing the toner supplied to the process units; a toner recovery container that stores a residual toner that is not transferred to the sheet and recovered on the transfer units and the process units to one container from the transfer units and the process units; and a control unit that refers to the history of use of the toner containers for replenishment to determine whether the toner recovery container is required to be replaced. When the number of the toner containers for replenishment used from when a new toner recovery container is attached exceeds a threshold predetermined for each type, the control unit determines that the toner recovery container is required to be replaced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8A
