Abstract:
To recover and reduce unreacted sulfidizing agent included in discharged waste water generated by polymerization reaction of polyarylene sulfide resin (PAS resin) followed by washing of the PAS resin with water or hot water, and to provide a method for producing a PAS resin having a higher molecular weight by reusing the recovered unreacted sulfidizing agent as a raw material of the PAS resin.SOLUTION: In a first embodiment, a method for producing a sulfidizing agent is provided, including the steps of: washing a mixture including a PAS resin, an alkali metal halide and an unreacted sulfidizing agent with water thereby obtaining an aqueous solution including an alkali metal halide, a thiophenol derivative and an unreacted sulfidizing agent; adding an organic solvent to the obtained aqueous solution and performing two-phase separation on the aqueous solution with the organic solvent added thereto and adding an acid to the aqueous solution and adjusting pH to 8 or less, thereby producing hydrogen sulfide; recovering the produced sulfidizing agent; and reacting the recovered hydrogen sulfide with an alkali metal hydroxide. In a second embodiment, a method for producing a PAS resin is provided which is identical to the method in the first embodiment except that the sulfidizing agent is reacted with a polyhalo aromatic compound in the presence of an organic amide solvent.SELECTED DRAWING: None
