Abstract:
To provide a joint assembly method of an aircraft for reducing or eliminating shimming.SOLUTION: An assembly comprises a first part 102 and a second part 110. The second part 110 comprises a non-faying surface 112 facing a base surface 120, a plurality of faying surfaces 118 manifested at bosses 116, and a plurality of second through-holes 114. The bosses 116 are shimmed if required. A width of each of the bosses 116 is equal to or greater than 2(r+T tanθ), where r is a maximum radial dimension of an outermost peripheral portion of a fastener 122, the outermost peripheral portion being in contact with the first part 102 or the second part, T is the distance from the point of contact, between the outermost peripheral portion of the fastener 122 and the first part 102 or the second part 110, to a faying surface of a corresponding boss 116, and θ is an angle between a central axis of the corresponding second through-hole 114 and an outermost load vector initiating at the point of contact between the outermost peripheral portion of the fastener 122 and the first part or the second part 110.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5A
