Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance and durability of a recording medium by incorporating Si, >=1 kinds among bivalent metal elements, O, N, and >=1 kinds among Y, lanthanoid elements and actinoid elements into the protective layer of an optical recording medium. CONSTITUTION:This magneto-optical recording medium 1 is constituted of a substrate 2, the protective layer 31, a thin magnetic film layer 4 as a recording layer, a protective layer 35 on the rear side of the substrate, an org. protective coating layer 5, an adhesive agent layer 6, and a protective plate 7. The protective layer 31 in this constitution contains the following elements: The layer first contains preferably Ba, Ca, Sr, etc. as the bivalent metal elements in the form of the oxides and nitrides such as SiO2, Si3N4, BaO, CaO and SrO together with Si to form the glassy material. The Y, lanthanoid elements and actinoid elements are mixed and incorporated in the form of the simple substance of element or the oxides such as Y2O3 and La2O3 with and into the above- mentioned glassy material. The corrosion resistance and durability of the recording medium 1 are thereby improved.
