Abstract:
PURPOSE:To stably and rigidly seal the side ends of an integrated member comprising a porous carbon plate and a dense carbon plate by sealing the aforesaid side ends with a dense carbon plate via polyimide resin liquid or polyimide resin liquid containing dispersed carbonaceous fine powder, and curing the sealed part via the application of heat. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber is made into a thin plate with phenol resin, and subjected to a heating and curing process, thereby forming the body of a substrate of porous carbon material. The body of a separator plate of dense carbon material is made as a thin plate via the kneading of graphite and phenol high carbonizing resin, and subjected to a heating and curing process. The substrate and separator plate bodies are baked and carbonized, jointed to each other using carbonizing resin liquid mixed with carbonaceous fine powder and integrated with each other after baking and carbonization in N2 at high temperature. A side plate 3 is a dense carbon material made through the same process. A solution with fine graphite powder dispersed in varnish-like polyamic acid is used as a bonding agent and the side plate 3 is bonded to the upper and lower ends of the separator 1 with a groove formed for a plate 2, and cured at a temperature of 180 to 300 deg.C. The formation of fluororesin film at the jointed part liable to contact phosphoric acid ensures higher stability.
