Abstract:
PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit construction and to decrease consumed power by setting a period during which potential is pinned when a transfer electrode is driven in pulsation. CONSTITUTION:The potential of an overflow drain region of a CCD is higher than potential capable of forming a potential barrier between a channel region and the overflow drain region. A multi-phase transfer clock in which a period of simultaneously applying the potential forming pinning or potential near to the pinning state in the channel region to respective transfer electrodes 11, 12, 13 and 14 is set is applied to the electrodes 11, 12, 13, 14 so as to drive them in pulsation. Information electric charge is discharged from the channel region to the overflow drain region. Thus, since the potential barrier between the channel region and the overflow drain region becomes smaller, the electric charge of the overflow drain region need not be extremely increased.
