Abstract:
PURPOSE:To compress the scale of hardware and to accelerate processing speed by setting the number of reference picture elements in a projection processing method within a prescribed number of picture elements by limiting the number of reference picture elements before conversion corresponding to one picture element within the prescribed number of picture elements, and approximating the color of the picture element exceeding the number to the one of an adjacent reference picture element. CONSTITUTION:A picture element density converter is comprised of an image output device 1, a majority processing part 2, a thinning processing part 3, a multiplexer 4, a projection method processing part 5, an error diffusion processing part 6, a simple binarization circuit 7, a multiplexer 8, a mode change-over switch 9, and a crystal oscillator 10, etc. The device 1 stores a binary image, and outputs an image synchronizing with a prescribed synchronizing signal, and the circuit 2 compares the black and white parts of an original image corresponding to one picture element after reduction, and sets the color occupying majority as the color of the picture element. The processing part 3 reduces the number of picture elements by thinning the original image cyclically, and the multiplexer 4 selects the output signals of the processing parts 2 and 3, and the processing part 5 outputs a multivalue signal by increasing/decreasing the number of picture elements. The processing part 6 applies a diffusion processing on the multivalue signal, and the circuit 7 decides a constant threshold value level.
