Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the structure in a weld zone and to produce a Zr or Zr alloy tube composed of a material uniform in a peripheral direction by forming a Zr or Zr alloy sheet into a tube by means of welding, performing specific cold working and process annealing, and then exerting specific final annealing. CONSTITUTION:A Zr sheet or a Zr alloy sheet is formed into a tube by means of welding. At the time of applying heat treatment to the resulting welded tube, the welded tube, after tube forming, is subjected to cold working at 10-25% draft and then to process annealing at 500-650 deg.C. Subsequently, the tube is subjected, once or more, to a process consisting of cold working at >=20% draft and process annealing at 550-650 deg.C. Further, the final annealing is done at 500-650 deg.C. By the above treatment, the acicular alpha-structure in a weld zone resulting from thermal hysteresis at the time of welding can be formed into equiaxed alpha-structure equal to that in a base metal part, and material characteristics in a peripheral direction can be uniformized. By this method, the Zr or Zr alloy tube in which soundness, such as durability, is provided both in the base metal and in the weld zone can be obtained.
