A rewritable organic recording medium comprising: (A) a substrate, and (B) a single recording layer containing a crosslinked polymer and a dyestuff, the crosslinked polymer having a crosslinking density which gradually decreases in a layer thickness direction from one surface of the single recording layer to the other surface of the single recording layer; a process for the production of the rewritable organic recording medium; a method of recording data comprising by irradiating the rewritable organic recording medium with strong laser beam; and a method of erasing a record.
