Abstract:
PURPOSE:To extract a character/linear graphic from which shadow influence is removed by extracting a thin shape appearing as a difference between a smoothed image and an image emphasizing density differences. CONSTITUTION:An image input part 1-1 inputs an image through an image recording system. A density conversion part 1-2 executes conversion for emphasizing the density differences of the image obtained by the input part 1-1 and the image obtained by the conversion part 1-2 is stored in an image memory 1-3. A smoothing processing part 1-4 processes the image stored in the memory 3-1 so as to smooth a shape having width such as a character/linear graphic. A character/linear graphic extracting part 1-5 calculates a difference between the image stored in the memory 1-3 and the image obtained by the processing part 1-4 and extracts a character/linear graphic from which shadows are removed. Even when shadows are superposed to a character or a linear graphic, the influence of the shadows can be removed and character or linear graphic extraction stable for a change in weather can be attained.
