Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of automatic white balance by comparing a signal level formed based on an image pickup signal fed to a signal processing circuit with a reference level and inputting a nearly white level picture element data to an integration means selectively based on the comparison so as to obtain an integration output. CONSTITUTION:A white level detection circuit 18 applies integration only when a signal level of color synthesis signals CR, CB does not exceed a reference level to obtain an integration value of a data of nearly white level picture element. Threshold levels CRA, CRB as reference levels in response to the change in the level of a luminance signal Y for each picture element are set to the white level detection circuit 18 and integration is implemented only when the level of color synthesis signals CR, CB does not exceed the threshold levels CRA, CRB and no integration is implemented if exceeding. Thus, only a picture element with nearly white level is detected and the data is integrated, then the accuracy of automatic white balance is much improved.
