Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for converting optical signal to electric signal for amplification, by comprising an image fiber amplifier whose core to be a waveguide for signal light is composed of gain medium, a multiplexer of the signal light and pump light, and an optical filter which allows only the signal light coming through the image fiber amplifier to pass. SOLUTION: An image fiber amplifier 2 where the signal pattern of 2-dimension pit train has a structure where a plurality of cores composed of gain medium are embedded in a clad layer. Meanwhile, the pump light from a pump light source 3 is incident on an image fiber 5 through a coupler 4, and the pump light reaching a multiplexer 6 through the image fiber 5 is multiplexed with the signal light from the image fiber amplifier 2. The multiplexed signal light and pump light reaches an optical filter 7 through the image fiber amplifier 2 again, where only the pump light is shielded and only the amplified signal light is allowed to pass the optical filter 7, and it is taken out as an amplified signal pattern.
