Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance the capacity of a copper oxide/chromium oxide catalyst used in reaction preparing methyl formate by the hydrogenation of methanol. CONSTITUTION:A copper oxide/chromium oxide catalyst is formed by a method wherein a precipitate obtained by the neutralization of copper salts, chromium salts and a basic compound is dried, baked and subsequently molded to carry an alkali compound. By adding a trace of said alkali compound to said catalyst, catalytic activity and selectivity are markedly enhanced and the stability of capacity is improved to a large extent and this catalyst shows no lowering of mechanical strength after reaction regardless of the presence of the addition of the alkali metal compound.
