Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an edge emphasis image processing unit in which a parameter is simply adjusted and the relation between an input value and an output value is simply predicted. CONSTITUTION: An image input section 11 acquires digital image data from a received image. A flatness numerical quantity processing section 12 acquires a value resulting from applying numerical quantity processing to a flatness of an image from the digital image data, e.g. a quantity to express a local flatness such as standard deviation of vicinity values. A picture element conversion function generating section 13 generates a function derived from a picture element conversion function for edge emphasis, e.g. a Sigmoid function based on the value applying numerical quantity processing to the flatness of the image. A picture element transforming section 14 transforms the picture element of the digital image data based on the picture element transformation function to decide an output picture element. An image output section 15 receives an output picture element to provide an output of a processed image whose edge is emphasized.
