Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a reading field from the picture data of an input document in which the logical positional relation of cells are specified but sizes and intervals are not specified. SOLUTION: Respective areas divided by ruled lines up to both the vertical or horizontal ends of a reference table area 210 are set up as divided areas T1 to T3 of a 1st hierarchy. Respective areas divided by ruled lines up to both the vertical or horizontal ends of each of the divided areas T1 to T3 are set up as the divided areas T11 to T22 of a 2nd hierarchy. Subsequently the divided areas of an n-th hierarchy are similarly set up. Information related to the hierarchical structure and information on which divided area in the hierarchical structure is a reading field are stored in a dictionary. Ruled lines are detected from the picture data of a table to be determined. The picture data are divided by the ruled lines to find out plural divided areas and a reading field is determined based on the information stored in the dictionary.
