To provide an image processing apparatus wherein a filter processing circuit in monochromatic and color reading modes can be simplified and the access to matrix configuration line memories in the filter processing can be designed identical between the monochromatic and color reading modes.

The image processing apparatus includes a line memory group for (2N+4) lines, and a filter processing means wherein in the case of the monochromatic reading mode, a line memory group by (2N+5) lines resulting from adding one line of its own built-in register to the (2N+4) lines of the line memory group are acted like the line memories for a monochromatic filter for processing pixels on the (N+3)th line memory as target pixels, and in the case of the color reading mode, the line memory group by the (2N+5) lines is acted like a color filter use line memory group by the number of lines indicated by an integer part of a value of (2N+4)/3+1 per one color of RGB colors.
