To provide a moving image playback control system which reproduces and displays moving images in time with performed music by variably controlling a time base for reproducing moving image data.
In one mode M1 of this system, during the playback of moving image data, a CPU 1 supplies time base control signals according to the tempo clock expressing tempo of performed music from tempo-detecting mechanisms TC, TM to a time base control section 71. A moving image playback section 73 reads out the moving image data from a RAM 70 by extending or shortening reading time per unit data according to playback speed adjusted by the time base control section 71 corresponding to the time base control signals and outputs the moving image data to a display 15 and performs the playback of the moving images matched with the tempo of the performed music. Moreover, the system can control both playback speed of music data and the moving image data in real time by allowing a user to operate an operation element TM for designating the performed tempo of music and by inputting a tempo clock corresponding to the operated position of the operation element.
