To provide a production method by which porous spherical nickel powder with a fine structure having desired particle diameter and specific surface area and suitable as electrically conductive powder for forming an electrode can be obtained in high yield.
The method of producing spherical nickel powder by reducing a nickel compound in which primary particles are flocculated to form spherical particles includes: a first process where the nickel compound is subjected to heating treatment by two stages of heating at 300 to 500°C and the subsequent heating at 800 to 1,300°C in a neutral or oxidizing atmosphere to produce nickel oxide powder; and a second process where the nickel oxide powder is subjected to hydrogen reduction to produce metal nickel powder.
