Abstract:
A new purification process for pentafluoroethane (F125) containing chlorotrifluroethylene (F1113), is claimed. A current of the F 125 to be purified is passed over a bed of activated carbon. The active carbon has a surface area of 800 - 1500 m<2>/g and a microporosity of 50 - 90%(more preferably 70 - 85%). The operating conditions are -20 to +80 degrees C and 100 - 2200 kPa. For a gaseous phase operation, the flow rate of F125 corresponds to a VVH of 50 - 1500 v/h/v with a velocity of passing 10 - 2500 cm/mn, and for a liquid phase operation the flow rate of F125 is 4 - 20 v/h/v with a velocity of passing 5 - 40 cm/mn.
